Giving

At St Edmund's we encourage all members to consider giving realistically to the life of the church. Once a year we teach about this at worship and ask everyone to make a formal response about their level of giving for the coming year.

In 2008 this took place in February. Liz Marsh who works across the Dioceses of Canterbury and Rochester to help congregations think about Christian stewardship spoke at a sunday morning service. (You can hear what she said by going to the audio  page on this web site - click here)

Believe it of not it will cost £1,901 per week to run our church in 2008. At our current level of income we need to find an extra £195 per week simply to break even. Take a look at the brochure giving you more information. (This is available as a download from the top of this page). The Bible teaches that we give 10% of our income (after tax but before any other expenses) to the church or to charity. The Church of England teaches that we give 5%. For many of us this is something to aim for - but we need to be giving. It is not an optional extra!

If you want to review your giving, or perhaps you are new to St Edmund's and want to start giving - download the response form from the top of the page. Completed forms in sealed envelopes marked 'for the attention of the Treasurer' can be given to centre office staff.

You can give through Standing Order - a form is available as a download on this page. Print it off, fill it in and hand a copy to your bank.

Some like to use a weekly giving envelope to help them plan their giving. Envelopes are available from Yvonne Millington in the Centre Office.

What we give is a matter between ourselves and God. What He expects of us is that we should each shoulder our responsibility as a member of the family of St Edmund's to the best of our ability.
